AQ - Cursed?

Whenever I see this hand, I cringe. Probability wise, it's a great hand. Not many will beat it. But I can't tell you how many times I've played AQ, only to see a King in the flop, and no help for me.
Worst is when you end up playing against AK with it. You'll have better luck eating a brick than winning a pot with this hand. It's cursed I tell you CURSED!

I only like to bet this hand aggressively if it's suited.

I have found myself ALL in against AK too many times. I no AK only wins about 1/3 of the time. I havent looked at the odds but my guess is AQ holds about 25-27%. You really have to work your pot odds with this hand.
Phil Ivey has lost at least three WPT tourneys with AQ.. I am with Phil. The hand is nothing but trouble yet it lures you in and sucks your chips out..I always feel compelled to play it. _________________ Irongirl

The hand is nothing but trouble, except when your holding pocket K's and get beat on the river with that pesky ace. Yes, I'm bitter.

I've always had good luck with this hand. I think if you play it like you've hit a pair of queens, but with a low kicker you can beat a lot of people. Once that king comes out though, GET OUT of the hand.

a q is just another hand that you are stuck with. Its not a monster yet its not a weak nor is it in the middle with drawing possibilites. It is just ace queen thats pretty much it. It has some str8 draw possibilites but besides that you really got to just hope the ace hits and no1 has a better kicker or even 2 pair with a rag card

AQ isn't too bad. A lot beter than playing pocket jacks or AJ. All are strong though, i'll take any of those, any hand. it's just a powerful hand, you'll prob win.

I think A Q is not one of the best hands. Any pair above 6 is preferable to AQ. And if you play this hand at the flop going all-in you may lose a lot

AQ suited or unsuited can be a good hand. But it can also be a tourney killer if you over bet it and get caught buy an unfriendly flop. Best bet is to try and see the flop as cheap as possible. However, if you already have too many hands in the pot make a raise to reduce your field of callers and chasers preflop, so that the bet is at least 3 times the blind to see it, then only your real competition is likely to follow. If the flop is weak, make a moderate bet nothing that will put you all in(pockets may hit for another player). If its a good flop watch out for straights and flushes and you should be good. And finally if your gut isnt in it get away from the hand. as they say, Luck favors the backbone not the wish bone. _________________ kardmonky
