Probably the number one mistake beginning poker players make is that they play far too many hands. When you're just starting out playing poker, you want to play poker, and that means staying in hands that aren't very good just to be part of the action. But playing more doesn't mean winning more, it usually means losing more. If you find you're staying in half or more the hands you're dealt, you need to upgrade your starting hand

The mistake of playing too many hands is often part of a larger mistake many new players make, which is not learning how to play a solid game, which is the best base.  That's why they repeatedly do other things they shouldn't like min-raising, bluffing off too many chips, etc.

You shouldn't just play less hands but limp in less.  If your hand isn't good enough to raise preflop then its probably not good enough to play.

hi all,

great advise.

first, have a playable hand list

for the various positions on the table.

best,
