this is good advice. i used to play at high stakes when i didnt have the kind of money to play there.

I totally agree and there are many books out there to help explain bankroll, etc.  Good post.

My time to move up limits is when i quadruple what i star with. Usually a better way is to make sure you are winning a bunch after a set # of hands. Make this number very high, like at least 5000 hands so as to be sure you werent just on a lucky/hot streak.

very good advice.  it just seems much easier to jump levels when playing online compared to at the real casino.

I also agree with the theory of not moving up.. If your making money in whatever limit game you play.. Keep doing it.. Alot of times people let there ego get in the way..

Dont live beyond your bankroll.. I play online as a hobby not a business like some.. So I only gamble freeroll/low buy-in money that I have won. So I wont play anything bigger than the 10/25 and 25/50 tables.. Obviously with the low cash amount I keep on these sites, One bad night and I wont be able to even afford a low buy-in tourny.

If your a big time gambler and in it for the cash only.. There are books on "Bankroll management"..

Let me be the first to say that the bigger cash game you play doesnt mean that the player is good. the only thing that it means when you see a guy winning or losing at a big table is that he has enough money to play the table there. I ahve played $5-$10 blinds and I have played .10c-.20c  I think the people that play .10-.20 play better actually. cause they will fold something like a flush draw that has the river to come and they need only a diamond. If yoru playing $5-$10 blinds...someone will go all in, and you will call with a set, and then they will suck out on you. take it from me, cause thats what happens to me every week. Now, I only play tourneys and sit and go's   Screw ring games unless you play small blinds.

While there can be various reasons for moving up, a key on in my mind is simply to make more money per hour.  This involves not only the difference in stakes, but also how many tables you can play simultaneously and your win rate.  

Also, while there are various guidelines out there for how large your bankroll should be to play at a particular level, they apply to playing regularly.  Stepping up to try a higher level as a one- or two time trial (more times if you're successful) isn't the same thing, so the same ratios don't necessarily apply.

I agree, I think it is important to play within your means.  They say for instance if your playing ring games to put about 10% of your bankroll in the game.  Meaning you should join something that fits to 10% of your bankroll or if you don't feel comfortable go lower however don't go any higher than 10%.

This is VERY good advice took me about 500 dollars and 2 months to realize that....if i ever get teh feeling that im not the best or one the best players at the table i go down a limit ....
